HISTORY OF
NATIONAL GOLF CLUB

Since the opening of the National on 18 November 1994, the Club has become a popular tourist destination attracting golfers from all corners of the world and in no time it won the international recognition: in year 2000 rankings of UK's Golf World magazine as the number 42 and in the year 2001 rankings' as the number 39 golf course in mainland Europe, in Germany's Die Welt magazine as the number 9 golf course on the European Mediterranean coasts in 2000 and also, has been rated 16th best golf course in the world by the readers of Germany's Golf Journal magazine in March 2002 and 14 th in 2003.

1992

Final planning permission granted. Planning and staking the routing begins.

1993

January Site Clearing & Golf Course Construction starts. May planting the academy course begins: Bermuda Tifdwarf greens, Bermuda 428 fairways, and tees.

1994

Major construction and shaping completed in June, planting of the Champion course greens, fairways     commences.  July academy course opened to the public for play.
November 18th.

1995

The first big event at the National the Mercedes Benz Cup. David Feherty. David Jones. David Kearney & Andy Stubbs play an entertaining exhibition match.

1996

The first ever Professional Golf Tournament to be hosted in Turkey
 The European Seniors Tour Beko/ Oger Tours Turkish Open won by South African Bobby Verwey.

1997

The second European Seniors Tour event.  The Beko Seniors Turkish Open. Won by England’s Tommy Horton.

2002

The Turkish Amateur Open Winner England’s Eren Behcet.

2006

The Formation of The National Junior Academy.

2008

The first European Ladies Tour Professional Tournament to be held in Turkey. The Garanti Masters Turkish Ladies Open. Won by Sweden’s Lotta Wahlin.

2010

The Turkish Airlines Ladies Open won by England’s Melissa Reid.

2011

The Turkish Airlines Ladies Open won by Holland’s Christel Boeljon.

2012

The Turkish Airlines Ladies Open won by Holland’s Chrstel Boeljon.

2013

4 day Visit to the National by HRH Prince Andrew the Duke of York
The Turkish Airlines Ladies Open won by South Africa’s Lee Anne Pace
The Turkish Amateur Open won by Karolina Vlckova CZE- Hamza Sayın TR.

2014

The Turkish Airlines Ladies Open won by France’s Valentine Derrey

The Let Access Series, The Mineks-Regnum Ladies Classic won by Sweden’s Emma Westin.
